Ghorepani Poon Hill Trekking is a short trek that is mixed with the Around Annapurna Trek but is still the best of Trekking in Nepal for Himalayan Sunrise Which allows you the views of Annapurna range, Dhaulagiri range and lamjung range as it surrounded in its 360-degree shape. Our trek takes us deep into the living of the Pun and Gurung Community(known for their tradition of Nepalese Folk Melody as a messenger before 1990's) and with rhododendron forests full of birds and deep sub-tropical valleys, all set below the Annapurnas with the picturesque peaks of Machhapuchhare ( Fish Tail Peak ) dominating the skyline. At the climax of this trek, you will climb Poon Hill at dawn to enjoy one of the most spectacular mountains on Earth. As the sun touches the snow-capped summits the Himalayan giants, Dhaulagiri Trek(8,167m.) and Annapurna Base Camp Trek (8,091m.) along with a maze of other peaks, slowly begin to appear like magic before your eyes. This is a rewarding trek that can be enjoyed by every lover of nature and beautiful landscape.You will also be able to visit the Traditional Mountain Lifestyle Museum in Ghandruk (Biggest Gurung Village)
Detail Itinerary
Day 01: Airport pick-up and transfer to hotel
One of Adventure Pilgrims Trekking's respondent will pick you from airport and transfer to hotel. Introduction about Nepal and the experienced trekking guide and short briefing about your trekking trip from the guide.In the evening, you'll have free or optional Nepalese Cultural Program with dinner.
Day 02 : Gear check up and rest day
Before we start our great trip to Annapurna Base Camp the guide will check your trekking gears and let you know about necessary items that you don't have. Hike around Thamel or optional City Tour in Kathmandu, Nepal (extra cost)
Day 03 : Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara (914m.) which takes about six hours.
You depart for six hours drive to Pokhara (915m,), 200 kilometers west of Kathmandu. As you climb out of the Kathmandu valley, only to quickly descend again to the Trisuli River, you follow upstream to its junction with the Marshyangdi River You follow the Marshyandi gently up through heavily terraced fields and small hill towns to the Seti River that takes you directly into Pokhara. Having pleasant weather, Pokhara is tourist's paradise with full of natural as well as cultural heritage sites such as lakes, caves, temples of Buddhist and Hindus along with mountains. You can observe views to the north across the hills and Phewa Tal (lake) to the white peaks of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Ranges. This drive will take most of the morning, leaving much of the afternoon to fall in love with its beauty. You can also fly from Kathmandu to Pokhara which takes about 25 minutes. Stay overnight at lodge.
Day 04 : Drive from Pokhara to Nayapul and trek to Ulleri (2050m/6725ft) via Tikhedhunga(1540m) takes 1.5 hr drive and 5 hrs trek.
At around 7:30 am, we start our drive to trekking start point to Naya Pul. From Naya Pul, we follow the south bank of the Modi river. After several hours of trek, we will pass through sub tropical valley forests, terraces , farmlands and sometimes on the carved trail on the side of the cliff. After lunch, we cross the Modi Khola (river) via a suspension bridge to the village of Tikhedhunga . We further trek along the trail quite steep at times. We reach Ulleri which is a community of Poons(Mongolian Ethnic with their own culture and tradition) and is famous for its 2,500 stairs pathway by late afternoon for overnight.
Day 05 : Trek from Ulleri to Ghorepani (2960 m.) it takes about 4-5 hours.
To begin your trek, you could ascend steeply for the early 2 hours and then ascend gently passing through Ulleri (2070m.) and Banthanti, Magar villages. On the way, you could see amazing view of Machhapuchhre or Fish Tail (6997m.), Huinchuli (6441m.), and Annapurna (7219m.) south.During March and April , this trial is wonderful due the various colors added by Rhododendron and many other colorful flowers. Now, your trail is quite easier passing through forest and descends gently . You could see some of the wildlife such as monkeys and various species of birds. Stay overnight at lodge.
Day 06 : Trek from Ghorepani to Poon Hill (3180m.) to Tadapani (2675m.) which takes about Seven hours.
This day, our guide will wake you up early in the morning .This trek is also considered as very popular among the Nepal Treks for Himalayan Sunrise .This will be a special day because we conquer Poon Hill- an icon of Annapurna region. We climb the steep trail to the viewpoint of Poon Hill (3200mtrs). It takes about 45 minutes to ascend with the stairs to the top. The efforts will be rewarded with spectacular sunrise view over Machhapuchre(6,993m), Dhaulagiri(8,167m), Nilgiri(6,650m), and the Annapurnas, Manaslu(8,163m). Three Highest Mountain above 8,000m in the world with spectacular view along with the sunrise. After taking photos and having some coffee or tea or hot chocolate, we return back to Ghorepani Village. Upon breakfast, we head east and climb a nearby ridge. We descend through Rhododendron forest, pass by Magnificient waterfalls along the way to Deurali Village which owns 300 Yaks and is famous for Yak Cheese and reach Tadapani for overnight stay.
Day 07 : Trek from Tadapani (2675m.) to Ghandruk (1950m.) it takes about Four hours.
It is very easy trek by descending gently all the way through rhododendron, oak and other kinds of dense forests. You could hear different kinds of birds chirping on the way. This is one of the popular destinations for the birds' lovers. Ghandruk is a big Gurung village. There is a handicraft centre and Gurung museum. From this village you could see good views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Gangapurna (7455m.), Annapurna III (7755m.) and Fishtail(6993m).You'll be exploring the whole typical Gurung Village to visit the Traditional Mountain Lifestyle Museum, old Ghandruk Village and ACAP Trust Headquarter. Stay overnight at lodge.
Day 08: Trek from Ghandruk (1950m.) to Pothana (1890m.) which takes about six hours.
First part of your trek is steeply down following stone staircase to Kimbu (Bee hive). Kimbu or Bee hive is located at the elevation of 1200 meters on the bank of Modi Khola. Now, your trail steeply ascends following the stone staircase up to Landruk. The trail ascends gently for early two hours and again ascends steeply for an hour to Deurali (2150m.) passing through Tolkha village (1850m.). From this point you can see panoramic view of Dhaulagiri I (8167m.), Annapurna South (7219m.), Hiunchuli (6441m.), Fishtail (6997m.), Annapurna III (7755m.), Annapurna IV (7525m.), Annapurna II (7937m.) and Lamjung Himal (6930m.). Now, the rest of the trail descends gently down to Dhampus passing through Pothana village (1890m.). Stay overnight at lodge.
Day 09 : Trek from Pothana to Dhampus Phedi (1113m.) which takes about three hours.
Your trail descends gradually for at least an hour and follows gravel road for two hours and then steeply descends to Phedi passing through Dhampus village, paddy fields and forest protected by local community. Upon your arrival at Dhampus Phedi, you can take a vehicle to reach Pokhara. Day 10 : Drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu by tourist mini bus that takes about seven hours.
We will arrange you tourist bus to Kathmandu , bus leave at 7 am from Pokhara . You can also fly from Pokhara to Kathmandu which takes about 25 minutes.stay overnight in hotel.
Day 11 : Departure to International airport
As we are saying farewell to Nepal for this trip, we will drop you to the airport for your safe journey to your sweet home .
